Former Wolves Trio Complete; Faas Shores Up Stangs Defense

OGDEN, UT. – The Ogden Mustangs, proud members of the United States Premier Hockey League, are excited to announce the signing of Luke Faas for the 2021-22 season.

Faas (Eagle, ID) completes the trifecta of former Wenatchee Wolves to join the ranks of the Ogden Mustangs. A two-way defenseman with great decision-making skills, Faas separated himself from the pack as the weekend went along and earned himself a spot on the roster. He is one of seven players to sign during the Ogden Mustangs Summer Tryouts in July for the upcoming 2021-22 season.

"Even with just the short time I spent in Ogden at training camp, I enjoyed every second of it. All of the coaches and players were extremely welcoming to all players at the camp and that stood out to me."

Officially listed at 5-10, 170 lbs, the two-way defenseman has a great opportunity to flourish in the Mustangs system similarly to the returning defensemen from last season. His instinctual ability on the ice translates well for a high-flying offense that swarms the puck and pressures teams into making mistakes. During this 2020-21 season, the mobile defenseman scored 12 points in just 23 games played and finishing with a +/- of 5. This is the fourth time in five years that Faas will journey to a new state to play hockey; previous stops coming in California, Colorado and Washington.

"I like to use my speed and skill to move the puck up the ice and join the rush. I have good offensive instincts and like to use them to the teams advantage."

Head Coach Kenny Orlando gets another quality and athletic two-way player in Faas. The expectation for the rookie junior player is high and they look forward to him seizing the moment when he is on the ice.

"Luke was a player that grew on us throughout the Ogden camp weekend. He seemed to always be in the right position and players struggled to get around him. He showcased his offensive abilities with the puck with netting multiple goals and setting up some creative plays. We’re ready to challenge Luke to raise his play to the next level in the 2021-2022 season."

Another Idaho-native, Faas is ready to trek down I-15 for Ogden and get to work. He knows the expectations from the coaching staff, but has even higher expectations set for himself and his team this season.

"I’m looking forward to being a part of a winning culture in Ogden. Starting from training camp, competing and trying to get better everyday forward and make a deep playoff run."
