THE ICE SHEET-- Over the past nine seasons, the Ogden Mustangs saw exponential growth and success unrivaled by any team in the WSHL. The success on the ice was just the result of what happened during the week: practice, review game film, hit the weight room, and becoming a better person in life every day.
Lori and David Miller were able to find a diamond in the rough when hiring Jake Laime in 2011. The Muskegon, MI native, who lives for the game but does not settle for mediocrity, found himself in a place that needed his influx of leadership, coaching, and accountability to push the Mustangs even further.
Laime took over as Head Coach and General Manager in the second year of Mustangs hockey in Ogden. After a back-and-forth season in his first year that earned the team a playoff birth, the foundation for a long run of dominance in junior hockey was in place. Each year saw a renewed vigor higher than the year before as the team grew hungry for more. Season after season, records began to proliferate, the Mustangs were feared, and hockey in Ogden had officially arrived.
The style of hockey saw a shift from a rugged and physical form to a more balanced and skilled approach. Laime's valuable insight, knowledge, and cerebral mindset were embraced and rewarded. The list of accolades, awards, and accomplishments throughout his tenure is the stuff of legend.
