OGDEN, UT. – The Ogden Mustangs, proud members of the United States Premier Hockey League, are excited to announce the signing of Jake Meure for the 2021-22 season.
Meure (Fremont, CA) is back with the Mustangs after a very successful junior debut in 20-21. The team-leading scorer and 2020-21 All-Mountain Division winger returns for season two. He officially signing his player contract at the Mustangs Summer Tryout Camp alongside fellow returning defenseman Cameron Hawks and newcomers Lewis Izadi and Trey Hirschfield. "My summer has been great so, this is by far the most work I've put into training both on and off the ice in my life and I'm super excited to go back and put all the work I've done to the test.
The potent scoring winger checks in at 5-10, 165 lbs while heading into his second season of junior hockey. His emergence was fast and furious with 3 goals and an assist in a non-league game vs the Las Vegas T-Birds during the annual First Responders Night in his junior hockey and Mustangs debut. He followed up his hot start with multi-point performances in 9 of the next 13 games (11 of 15 to begin the season) and asserting himself among the top of the division in scoring. Meure led Ogden in assists (48) and points (66) in 47 games played. In the USPHL Premier, he was 5th in assists, 2nd in powerplay assists (22) 1st in overtime goals and T-1st in shootout goals. "I'm just going to go into next season with the same mindset as I do every year: Work hard, play my game, be a good teammate and make sure that as a group we are all moving in the right direction together."
The return of Meure is another huge addition to the '21-22 puzzle that Head Coach Kenny Orlando is in the midst of solving. There is no doubt how big of a game-changer his top-scorer is, however, there are big things on the horizon for Meure and Orlando ensures to keep pushing his player to evolve into a better player and leader.
"Last season, Jake quickly jumped into the lineup and proved his offensive abilities. We will rely on those heavily this season. We’ll continue to challenge him with work away from the puck to help propel him to the next level. Meure is a high-character individual and had demonstrated some leadership abilities in the latter half of last season. We expect that to continue in 2021-2022 as the guys look up to him in the locker room. Big things are coming in his direction."
A hockey season is incredibly difficult to predict. With so many variables and situations that arise, no one ever fully knows what to expect. One thing is certain amongst this current Mustangs roster: The '21-22 season will be a special one for all of Ogden.
"Like every year, the expectation is to win a national championship. Sometimes teams just say that to motivate their guys, but this year myself along with all returning players, new players, and coaching staff truly believe this is the team that will get it done. It's also really exciting for our fans as they have been there through all of our ups and downs and they deserve to have a champion."
