Mustangs add Russian defender from Edson

The Ogden Mustangs have added defenseman Ramil Talipov for the 2019-20 season.

Talipov joined the Edson Aeros late last season in their Thorne Cup Finals run. He quickly become their No. 1 D-man and finished the season with two goals and 34 assists in just 20 games. Previous to joining the Aeros he played in the GMHL for a season and a half, amassing 69 points in 58 career games.

He comes to the Mustangs excited to make a return to where last season ended for him, as the Mustangs eliminated the Aeros in the Thorne Cup semi finals.

“To me, the Mustangs showed energetic competition and skillful work, great discipline, smart play, and the team was able to follow all the coaches’ instruction,” Talipov said. “Ogden has beautiful nature, mountains, great view and great people. This is a nice place to play. I’m very excited to see all Mustangs fans at our games. It’s great support and gives us a lot of energy.”

Talipov stands at 6-feet-2-inches and 206 pounds. He’s from a small town in the Siberian area of Russia called Novokuznetsk. Born in 1999, this will be his final season of junior hockey eligibility.

Talipov describes himself as a two-way defenseman who can join the rush and play with confidence and composure.

“I can’t wait for the season to begin,” Talipov said. “I’ve been training all summer. I’ve been all over the place. I’ve gotten a lot of experience. I’m gonna try to show a good smart play. I’m really glad to be part of this organization, and nothing else matters now. I’m a Mustang.”

Talipov arrived in town today and will be ready to go for the Mustangs’ opener on Oct. 4.

Talipov is the 23rd player on the Mustangs’ 2019-20 roster. He’s the 14th new addition to go along with nine returners from last season.
